Occult Medicine: Occult medicine is a field that includes forms of medicine that fall outside the realm of traditional Western medicine and may even be unknown within the greater bodies of non-traditional medicine such as Traditional Chinese Medicine and Ayurveda.   The word “occult” means hidden. Occult medicine is a system of medical practices that are not known or accessible to the general population. Occult medicine also may refer to medicine that involves ceremonies and prayer to affect the patient’s healing.   Occult medicine is sometimes connected to “gnosis,” a word referring to ancient wisdom concerning medicine. A practitioner of occult medicine is often known as a “gnostic healer.” Occult medicine is believed by some to trace its roots back to the origin of mankind; modern practitioners of occult medicine may use the same ceremonies and formulas that were used by the most ancient human civilizations.   Much of occult medicine is based on nature and natural materials, which were the only tools available to ancient cultures. Gnostic healers may be herbalists or botanists who believe in the spiritual healing powers of plant materials and combine these powers with prayer and ritual to bring about healing. Occult medicine may also be referred to as a form of magic in the broadest sense. Healing through occult medicine may be called “practical magic.”   The “medicine men” of tribal cultures were gnostic healers and could accurately be described as practicing occult medicine because their methodologies were hidden from general knowledge and were passed down directly from one generation of healers to the next. Such healers are sometimes called “spiritual doctors” not because they adhere to some system of spirituality but because they communicate with and utilize the spirits of plant materials and other elements of nature such as magnetic rocks and crystals.   Occult medicine healings may take place outside the sphere of the physical world, such as astral body healings while the patient is asleep and has temporarily left his physical body. Spiritual beings such as angels or the faeries governing certain elements may be called upon for assistance in occult medicine practices. The occult medicine temples of healing in the Mayan tradition are said to exist in the fourth dimension.   In this century, occult medicine may encompass occult pseudo-scientific practices such as astrology, aura analysis, Kirlian photography, and palmistry. Occult medicine also may include modern-day practitioners of such ancient traditional practices as shamanism, clairvoyant diagnosis, faith healing, and witchcraft. Some traditional Western doctors might even consider Traditional Chinese Medicine or Christian Science as branches of occult medicine because they are based upon principles that can be intuited but not proven by science.   Believers in occult medicine would argue that the results of such a system cannot be measured by means that exist outside their reality. In other words, a shaman’s healing cannot be scientifically measured because shamanism is outside the realm of science. However, believers would argue, that does not make shamanic healing or any other form of occult medicine less real or less effective to the one who is cured by such means.   “The true doctor is not the result of scientific schools but the one who became a doctor through the light of divine wisdom itself.” Gnostic physician Frans Hartman
