STOP PRESS Storm Hovercraft on television....Chris Evans, The One Show..... Blue Peter.........Famous and Fearless......... Many thanks to High Cross Hovercraft more details below. January 2011. We have just been selected to produce a new craft for HoverAid who are currently working in Madagascar. The specification for this craft is quite strict and pose interesting design challenges for us. It has to be diesel powered, with a roof / sun shade and be less than 500kg in weight as it has to be slung under a helicopter !!! Pictures will; be on here as it progresses. HoverAid UK link December 2010 In preparation / anticipation of the order for HoverAid we had to bring forward plans for the development of the 2011 racing craft. Pictured below :- the black craft is for Sacha Rouchier who lives in Italy but races on the European circuit. and the blue and grey craft which is for the company owner to race in F50 in 2011. We have just become UK distributors for Hirth engines and the Vortex craft has a single carburettor 50hp version, of their standard production 55hp engine. This engine we hope will replace the now out of production Rotax 503 in this very competitive F50 championship 2010 what a year !!! 2010 will go down as a good year, as well as keeping busy producing Vortex 4+ cruising craft, manufacturing engine / fan systems for film companies, producing 2 super quiet corporate Storm hovercraft and 3 top line racing craft we also found time to build a new racemeeting mobile shop / trailer. Oh yes almost forgot ......took a number of wins at the Hovercraft World Championship event last August. BMW powered Vortex 4 was made for a Spanish customer, not quite sure of its intended final use..but we fitted an electronic control variable splitter plate to this craft. It worked so well that we are going to incorporate the design on our other large craft. We have continued being involved in a variety of 'other projects' this year some of which have links into the film industry, some of which we can't say much about!!! A new corportate entertainment company called High Cross Hovercraft, selected Vortex Services to manufacture 2 new craft for them. They operate in a number of noise sensitive locations so craft noise was a big issue. Building on the work we did for our Danish and Austrian clients we were able to deliver craft with sensible performance and a noise signature of 71dba @ 25m, we do produce the quietest hovercraft in Europe. Most craft of this type are 80 - 85ba. If you want to have a go on one of our Storm hovercraft book a ride at High Cross Hovercraft During February and March we produced 3 racing craft that were used in the UK rounds of the Hovercraft Championship. Much of the year was spent getting the craft sorted out ready for the World Championships in August. We had a very successful time at the World meet and craft from the Vortex stable achieved the following results:- F1 2nd & 3rd Vortex Predator FS 1st Vortex Raptor F50 1st Vortex Raptor F3 1st Vortex Raptor FJunior 1st Vortex Storm In addition to these excellent results, there were a number of other Vortex Craft that were well placed in many of the formulas If you find yourself at a UK race meeting do come and find us, we are the large blue and grey shop trailer with a grey awning.
